I came across this page recently -- it's part of the UT Copyright page,
which is often cited as a source for copyright information:

http://www.utsystem.edu/OGC/IntellectualProperty/mono3.htm

Even though showing movies is commonly done, it does appear to violate
copyright. I'd be interested in seeing if other people/institutions
have a different take on the matter, so please respond to the list.

The issue of movie copyright was raised on this list a couple of months
ago and people were directed to www.swank.com to learn more about
getting performance rights.
