There's an international code of ethics for dealers in cultural property
of all kinds (including works of art), adopted by UNESCO in 1999. You
will find this at:

http://www.unesco.org/culture/legalprotection/committee/html_eng/ethics1.shtml

(Apologies for the complicated address - not my fault!!)

Hello,
I'm doing research for my master's thesis in museum studies, on the
antiquities trade. I'm looking for codes of ethics of art dealers
and/or auction houses, that address the issue of illicit antiquities
and cultural property.

I need to find the code of ethics of the International Association of
Dealers in Ancient Art. I've looked online and have come close to
finding a website, but no cigar. I've called Sotheby's in New York,
and got the phone number for the National Association of Dealers in
Ancient, Oriental and Primitive Art, but got an answering machine.
If they have a code of ethics as well, I'd like to get a copy of that.

Does anyone know the websites for the IADAA or NADAOPA, or have a
copy of their code of ethics? Or do you know of similar
organizations and codes of ethics? Thank you for your help.

Yours,
Eve Brockmann
