   The George Washington University Center for Professional Development 
Announces the following course January 31-February 2,2003 in Washington DC:

Survey of American Decorative Arts: 1650-1900 (Course CWAS 508):
Shortly after arriving in the New World, America's earliest colonists established various trades for the production of domestic furnishings such as furniture, pottery and metalwork. This course will survey American decorative arts from the Colonial, Federal, and Victorian periods, tracing the evolution of furniture, ceramics, glass, silver and metalwork from the beginnings of colonization to the end of the nineteenth century. Emphasis will be placed on decorative styles, forms, motifs, materials, craftsmanship and manufacturing techniques. The course will also address the types of imported items that supplemented the production of decorative arts objects in America. Lecture will be followed by a tour of the American decorative arts collections at the Baltimore Museum of Art.
Dates: January 31-February 2; Time: Friday 2:00pm -6:00pm; Saturday & Sunday 9:00am-6:00pm; Tuition: $461, Location: Washington DC - 2020 K Street NW, Instructor: Walter Ritchie
