Don't be surprised by the colour patterns you can encounter in Cree
beadwork, though my experience is limited to that done by the Swampy Cree of
Northern Manitoba. I know exactly what you mean. Hughly contrasting
comibations and those many might call unusual or unexpected are very common
(and traditional). I have only one piece of applique Swampy Cree beadwork
where the colours aer subtle. It is a beadwork pickerel on split moosehide,
done with silverlined beads with colours to suggest those of the fish. It is
one of the finest pieces of such work I ever saw and was presented to me by
the band at Split Lake when I left the north.
