i'm trying to help the folks im working with set some reasonble expectations
for attendance and the like....while i have the latest financial data, from
AAM, that looks at its member museums, i want to cross check some of my
assumptions .

since we don't have a track record yet, one of the ratios i decided to look
at was gross number of visitors per square foot of facility (under roof). I
am particularly interested in hearing from museums whose square footage is
in the 18,000 to 24,000 square foot range.

your figures don't have to be dead on - i'm just trying to get a
back-of-envelope feel.

besides your attendance and square footage, if you could also indicate size
of community that you draw from, that will give me another way to slice the
cake.

by the way, looking at medians only, for art museums the attendance is about
1.84 per square foot and for children's museums, around 4 per square foot.
using an average of these two (we're not a gallery, not a museum, and not a
children's museum) yields a baseline of 63000 people for a 21,000 square
foot facility.

replies off-line are fine. if enough people respond i'll keep a rough tally
and report back.

thanks in advance
