EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY
Historical Society Director
Salary, $28,000 to $32,000

Plus health insurance benefits
(after 6 months of satisfactory employment)

The Marion County Historical Society is seeking a director for its
operations. The Society owns its own building, located on the Mission Mill
Village campus, in Salem, Oregon, and has operated at this site since 1984.
There is a small museum with six permanent exhibits plus an area for
changing exhibits reflecting local industries and current celebrations,
using artifacts collected the past 46 years. The Society also concentrates
on gathering original material for publishing a quarterly newsletter and
more extensive volumes intermittently.

The successful candidate for this position will have the following qualities:

*       Should posses a bachelor's degree (BA or BS) from an accredited college
or university, and either a graduate degree from an accredited college or
university or professional experience comparable to the requirements for a
graduate degree.
*       Willingness and the demonstrated ability to work well and closely with
Society officers, board members, committees, volunteers, local government
officials, and the public.
*       Professional experience sufficient to provide practical day-to-day
application of techniques in realizing the mission and reaching the goals
of the Society, administering the Society and its programs, supervising
paid staff and volunteers,  planning and achieving the Society's financial
development program, and promoting public awareness of the Society's
activities and events.

Salem, incorporated in 1857, is one of Oregon's oldest cities. As the
capital city of Oregon, and the seat of Marion County, Salem is the state's
third largest city with a population of 117,000. Salem is centered midway
between the mountains and the ocean in the heart of the Willamette
Valley-one of the most fertile and agriculturally productive regions in the
world, and between Portland and Eugene at the crossroads of Interstate
Highway 5 and Oregon Highway 22.
