There were some cannon balls that were filled with gunpowder.
FYI
During the Civil War and Union ship shelled the small coastal town of Corpus
Christi, TX. The citizen went running for cover, but soon returned when
nothing happened. They opened the balls and found they were filled with
alcohol. Some of the sailors had stolen a barrel of ration alcohol and hid
the alcohol inside the cannonballs. They thought it was a safe hiding place
since they had not seen any fighting in several months.
