Hi all,

I'm currently working on an exhibition titled Confrontational Clay: The
Artist as Social Critic that will be traveling for the next two years to a
variety of museums around the country (the tour begins this January). As
the title would suggest, several of the pieces in the show do not shy away
from controversy. One piece is a toilet festooned with a variety of kitschy
figurines, including Christ sporting a Mickey Mouse cap. Another artist in
the show parodies Hummel and Precious Moments by outfitting her figurines of
sweet little girls with guns and rifles. In the wake of the whole Sensation
controversy (not to mention the Columbine tragedy), I want to help museums
prepare for and address the issues constructively and proactively with their
community. The question is, how? What advice would you give museums
preparing to host this show? And how can teachers and docents address the
issues without censoring themselves in the process?

Thanks in advance.

Sincerely,

Mike
