BRANCH DIRECTOR I

DIVISION OF HISTORIC PROPERTIES
Historic Jefferson College
Washington, Mississippi

STARTING ANNUAL SALARY: $35,993.50 PLUS BENEFITS
DEADLINE FOR SUBMITTING APPLICATIONS: January 31, 2008

Historic Jefferson College at Washington (Adams County) is comprised of
eight historic buildings (1819-1938) on an 80-acre property. The
buildings must be scheduled for on-going maintenance, with careful
prioritization due to funding restrictions. One of the buildings,
Raymond Hall (1915), is currently undergoing a complete renovation
carried out in phases. Phase II of the Raymond Hall renovation project
commenced in 2007 and will conclude in early 2009. This project is
managed by the site’s Branch Director. Historic Jefferson College also
houses an extensive artifact collection, numbering approximately 3,000
items that includes documents, photographs, uniforms, and military
equipment. The planning and development of the site’s educational and
public programming is under the supervisory oversight of the Branch
Director. This aspect of the site’s mission includes directing school
group field trip programming, developing educational adult programs, and
taking overall responsibility for a variety of annual public events.
The Branch Director is also charged with meeting all of the requirements
necessary for Historic Jefferson College to receive accreditation by the
American Association of Museums. In addition to overseeing all aspects
of building and artifact preservation, the Branch Director is
responsible for overseeing the maintenance of the grounds and nature
trails. The Branch Director has supervisory oversight of the site’s
8-member staff. The management of Historic Jefferson College requires
the Branch Director to plan and work within a fiscal year budget, manage
long-term development plans, and assist the Division Director with
planning and policy-making.
