The Historical Society of Washington, D.C. presents "Remembering Woodies."

February used to mean the Founders' Day Sale at Woodies.  Woodward &
Lothrop is no more, but The Historical Society of Washington, D.C. opened
a new exhibit, "Remembering Woodies," on February 24th at the Heurich
House Museum, 1307 New Hampshire Ave., NW.

"Remembering Woodies" showcases materials in the Woodward & Lothrop
Department Store Collection, recently added to the permanent collections
of The Historical Society of Washington, D.C. The exhibition traces
Woodies' role ine the development of the city of Washington as an urban
center.  Photographs, bill enclosures, catalogs, manuals, scrapbooks,
artifacts, and clippings document how the store and the city grew up
together.  The exhibition opens February 24, 1996 and continues through
November 2, 1996.

The Historical Society of Washington, D.C., promotes understanding about
the history and culture of Washington, D.C. The Historical Society is
located at 1307 new Hampshire Ave., N.W. (Dupont Circle Metro).  The
Heurich House Museum and Eleanor Medill "Cissy" Patterson Gallery of
Washington History are open Wednesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Admissions is $3 for adults and $1.50 for childrens, seniors, and
students. The Historical Society also operates a research library and
publishes <Washington History>, coordinates National History Day in the
District, and presents public programs on Washington history.  For more
