                        Librarian/Archivist (1510).

The Texas Ranger Hall of Fame and Museum, a department of the City of Waco,
seeks an experienced librarian/archivist to reorganize and develop its
special collections library and archives. Founded in 1968, the facility
portrays the 173 year history of the Texas Rangers, a symbol of Texas and
the American West. The library/archives consists of approximately 1,600
volumes in addition to manuscript, photograph and audio tape collections.

Waco is a metro area of 200,000 located at the confluence of the Brazos and
Bosque Rivers halfway between Dallas/Fort Worth an Austin. The town is a
regional center offering most amenities, friendly residents, Baylor
University, and 15 museums and cultural facilities. Austin is 1-1/2 hours
south and Dallas/Ft. Worth is 1-1/4 hours north. (Check out Waco's Internet

Primary duties: Develop and implement library policies, practices and
procedures. Assess collections, solicit and process library materials and
archives. Design, implement and maintain a catalog of holdings. Respond to
research inquiries and staff requests. Supervise conservation of archives
and books. Serve on planning team for renovation and expansion of existing
25,000 s.f. museum facility. Prepare and manage annual division budget.
Assist with grants and funding requests. Supervise paraprofessional
employees, interns and volunteers.

Qualifications: M.L.S. with archives specialization and focus on the history
of the American West, or, M.A. in History or American Studies with focus on
the history of the American West and comprehensive archives management
coursework. One year experience as an Assistant Archivist or Archivist.
Experience with donor relations and the assessment of collections and
catalog systems. Experience with archival arrangement and description
protocols and archives and library cataloging software. Accomplished writing
skills and expertise with PC word processing and database software. The
ability to work with diverse constituencies and a professional demeanor.
Ability to lift 40 pounds.

Salary: Starting salary $23,629-$26,434 DOE plus excellent benefits. EOE.
