There are still a couple of spaces remaining in the upcoming "Exhibition
Design and Installation" course offered January 22-27 through the Cultural
Resource Management Program at the University of Victoria. Due to the demand
for this very well-received course held in November, we are pleased to host
this second session.

Exhibition Design and Installation, January 22-27

Effective exhibitions provide a creative, safe, and meaningful context in
which objects and information can be shared, studied and enjoyed. This
intensive, hands-on course focuses on the design and museological elements
which must be considered in the creation of exhibitions and strengthens your
understanding of:
o constructing meaning through exhibitions
o the roles of objects and information
o conservation considerations
o designing for orientation, visitor flow, and communication
o lighting and colour
o storylines
o interactive exhibitry
o the role of computer technologies in design and interpretation
o project planning and management
o temporary and traveling exhibits
o production scheduling, installation, and maintenance
Field work and the development of a scale model and an exhibit case provide
you with an opportunity to build your exhibition planning and design skills.

Instructor: Alan Graves is an exhibit designer with the Royal British
Columbia Museum, and has been involved in the planning, design and
management of of permanent, temporary and travelling exhibitions.

Dates: January 22-27
Please register by: January 2
Fee: $589 Cdn funds (credit and non-credit options)
Travel: Victoria is easily accessible from Seattle and Vancouver

Accommodation: Program staff are pleased to provide information on local
B&B, hotel, and on-campus options  -- some options as low as $25 CAD/night!
