I learned about this yesterday and signed up for three
groups in my area. Perhaps you know about it, but if
you don't, it might be of help to your institution in
these tight-money times.

http://www.freecycle.org

Concept is that, if you have something you want to get
rid of, you make it known to the group in your area.
If somebody wants it, it's their responsibility to
pick it up. I don't see as much application for that
as I do for the other side of the coin . . .

Which is, if you have something you want, you put it
out there and hopefully will get a match. Let's say
your institution needs a paper cutter. Ask the list,
who knows what you might find. I'm thinking more in
terms of supplies for your organization, but goodness
knows, maybe someone in your community has that hard
to find old treasure sitting there and looks like junk
to them.

Worth a thought. I found some interesting merchandise
going back and forth in my area: piano, microwave,
computers, request for a digital camera, and more.

Hope this helps.
