Speaking of great Southern expressions, there's also, "He's just as cute
(smart, sweet) as he can be!"  Of course no one says that he may not be
able to be very cute to begin with, but he certainly does the best he can
with what he's got.  We apply this to newborn babies quite often!  No, not
yours, when your child was born he/she I'm sure was magnificent.
