We just did the time capsule thing, not so much for the millennium but for
our 20th anniversary. We are the local arts agency in Fulton County (the
county where Atlanta is) and invited the arts community to bring a memento
for the time capsule.

We commissioned an artist to create a unique design for the capsule (as an
arts agency, we felt it was appropriate to do something creative, not just
buy one from a catalogue). It's an egg-shaped cast bronze object, with
various symbols on the surface, and two openings through which you can peek
at the contents. We don't plan to bury our time capsule, but will have it in
our offices on view. We haven't decided when to open it--but hopefully since
it's not deep underground, it won't be forgotten after we've all moved on to
other things.
