Education Curator Internship

Description
Fremont Indian State Park and Museum is administered by Utah Division of Parks and Recreation. Over 700 rock art panels can be found in the park, and the museum contains artifacts from Fremont archaeological sites in and around Clear Creek Canyon in central Utah. The primary purpose of Fremont Indian State Park and Museum is the preservation and interpretation of Fremont Indian Culture through the cultural resources of Clear Creek Canyon.
The selected intern will research and develop visitor activities and special events that enhance visitor experiences. These activities/events might include interpretive "teaching carts," interactive exhibits, outdoor kiosks, workshops, and children/family programs (day camp, overnight parties, animal programs, etc.). Tasks include but are not limited to assisting with current educational events, developing educational themes, goals and objectives for each program, researching and writing proposals for grant funding opportunities, and developing evaluation tools for programs and activities.
College credit for the work done may be available, in addition to the stipend provided, based on the intern's school's policies regarding credit for internships. The intern will work under the guidance and supervision of the Museum Curator.

Requirements
·	Current enrollment in a graduate or undergraduate institution and taking a for-credit class. Recent graduates (within 6 months) may also apply.
·	MS Word and Internet experience.
·	Detail-oriented, motivated and self-starting.
·	Time Commitment: 200 hours.
·	The internship will commence upon acceptance into the program and must be completed by June 30, 2007. The intern will work with the Curator to develop a mutually beneficial schedule.

Application
1.	Complete and return the attached Internship Interest Form. The postmark deadline is December 15, 2006.
2.	Attach a statement of no more than 500 words (two typewritten pages, double-spaced), which explains how the Fremont Indian State Park and Museum internship fits with your background and career goals. Also describe what you hope to achieve from the experience and what you believe you can contribute.
3.	Phone or in-person interviews will be conducted with the top applicants. Selection will be based upon the extent of the applicants' ability to meet the requirements of the internship.

Internship Includes:
·	Thorough orientation.
·	Training in Fremont archaeology, development of educational programs and grant writing.
·	Work on particular projects for which the intern has responsibility.
·	Stipend: $1600.00 for 200 hours.
·	Housing and benefits are not available. A hook-up is available for a motor home.

Orientation
The intern will receive an orientation packet with brochures, staff list, development plan for upcoming projects, schedule of events, and a relevant list of readings and bibliographies, including an intern checklist. The intern will be introduced to everyone on staff and briefed on policies and procedures. Tours of the park, museum and workspace will be provided; a tour of Richfield will be provided as necessary. The intern will meet with the Curator to receive project instructions, goals and expectations.

Evaluation
Internship evaluation will include both a formal evaluation at the end of the internship and periodic informal evaluations to ensure that both the park's and the intern's needs are being met. The Museum Curator and intern will each complete a written evaluation upon completion of the internship. The evaluations will address orientation and training, quality of the intern's work, and benefits and quality of the program.
