Summary of Duties and Responsibilities: University Museums is seeking candidates for an Assistant Curator.

The Assistant Curator of the Christian Petersen Art Museum and the Anderson Sculpture Garden serves as the primary collections and exhibitions curator with care and conservation duties of the Art on Campus Collection. This position assists the Director in implementing the acquisition program of the Art on Campus Collection, and coordinates with the Educator of Visual Literacy and Learning to integrate areas of management into the museums’ educational programs. The Assistant Curator strategizes and plans a robust exhibition program (2 to 3 annually) at the Christian Petersen Art Museum and the Anderson Sculpture Garden (one every two years) which includes project budget development, project management, and revenue generation. Additionally, the position coordinates, conveys, implements and presents high quality educational programs, develops curriculum specific class projects, and integrates visual literacy learning that utilizes the permanent collection and changing exhibitions. The Assistant Curator participates in development and donor relations through the cultivation of donors of both fiscal funds and objects, the writes project based development language, and actively raises funds for exhibition projects and permanent collection maintenance. The Assistant Curator provides positive public relations through exhibitions, visitor interaction, donor relations, tours, and programming for University Museums at all times; and assists with coverage and security during museum open hours at all of the University Museums facilities.

The skills of a successful candidate may include: knowledge of commonly used resources associated with research and museum educational programming, visual literacy and learning skills and techniques; general care, maintenance and conservation theory of works of art; and the ability to project and manage multiply significant projects simultaneously. Computer literacy is essential and acquaintance with The Museum System permanent collection database program is desired.

Required Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of related experience.

Preferred Education and Experience: Master’s degree. Professional experience in a museum curating, public art administration and/or education department; care and conservation of large scale sculpture. Experience in grant and proposal writing, and project management (including budget management).

Required Licensure(s)/Certification(s): U.S. State Driver’s License
