Ms Beach,
    One of my favorite books on Non-profit corporations and the
establishment of them is Thomas Wolf's, Managing a Nonprofit Organization in
the 21st Century, you may want to read this if you havent. IN response to
your question, I personally would give the mission statement as that
strategic planning in regards to it are spearate and distinct although this
planning must adhere to the mission as a whole. A committe is a portion of
the board responsible for a specific portion of the organization of and
seeking action towars the mission. Dont confuse people.   Wolf describes all
this in great simple to understand detail. Best of luck ..........Jim
