Japan's leading museum consultants: Total Media Development Institute wishes t
o take the priviledge to announce the new publication "University Museums", th
e first volume of series "Directory of Museums" (September 1997). Comprehensiv
e and brief information of 100 outstanding and unique museums of universities
and colleges at Australia, Canada, New Zealand, U.K., U.S.A. are given. The in
formation was gathered by questionnaires, correspondence by e-mails, fax, over
seas telephone calls, information offered by snail-mail, information obtained
on the Web, etc.  Appendix of outstanding 51Japanese university museums and un
iversity museums at other countries (58 countries/ 500 museums) are attached.
 Comprehensive resources such "Cinderella Collections: University Museums and
Collections in Australia" (Australia Vice-Chancellor's Committee, 1996) can be
 found in the selected biography. Address' of university museum associations o
f Australia, U.K. and U.S.A. is also enlisted. Picturesque images of education
al programs for children and general public given by many unique university mu
seums can be found in this directory. E-mail address and URLs are also enliste
d as well. Links to websites of many of the enlisted university museums on the
 web is available on the homepage of The Institute of Exhibition Art and Techn
ology which is the research branch of Total Media Development Institute Co., L
td.   at <www1.odn.ne.jp/~aaa14820>.

The publishers not only wishes this directory would promote the development of
 university museums in Japan but also this directory being a rich resource of
ideas and also to help establishing new networks and future ventures among mus
eums of different universities and countries.
The second volume "Children's Museums" of the series, having the same idea wil
l be published in February 1998. Brief and comprehensive information of outsta
nding children's museums at Australia, Austria, the Baltic Countries, Finland,
 Germany, Mexico, North America, Netherlands, Russia, Phillippines, Portugual,
 UK, etc. will be covered.
