Dear Trent,

Hello from a dark and f'rrrrreeezing GOOD MORNING in Tokyo !

Although I am not specialized in the history of museums, here is some picks
exclusively for you.

Bennett, Tony. 1995. The Birth of the Museum: histry, theory, politics. New
York: Routledge.

America's Museums. Daedalius: Journal of the American Academy of Arts and
Sciences. Summer 1999. Cambridge, U.S.A.: Daedalus.

Burcaw, G. Ellis. 1997. Introduction to Museum Work. 3rd. edition. Altamira
Press.

Impey, Oliver and Arthur MacGregor ed. 1985. The Origins of Museums: The
Cabinet of Curiosities in 16th and 17th Century Europe. Oxford: Clarendon
Press.

I am sure the Smithsonian Studies Center can give you more titles for your
needs.

In addition, watch out for continuing information from other colleagues on
the Museum-L, first to mention Roger Smith and Prof. Patrick Boylan.

Good Luck and stay-tuned to YOUR Museum-L !

someone asked if there is museum about the history of museums. In a
nutshell, does anyone know of a museum dedicated to how the museums, their
function, and techniques have changed over time? Possibly even exhibits
showing how museum exhibits have changed over the years.
