I went on a Firearms and ammunition course with Leeds Armouries/ National Firearms Centre facilitated by Staffordshire University just last month, it was very good and has given us a nice link to the Firearms curator and the training on the day with section five firearms was unreal! It helped us over at the museum gain further knowledge and awareness on how we can use our firearms. I got a couple of hours with the firearms curator and he was able to discuss the different sections of firearm, which have different display requirements and which are covered or not needed to be covered under the firearms licence. So all in all it will maximise the use of such things in the collection. The course was £180 and it is coming up again on the 13th of January next year, you can do a second day at Staffordshire University but that mainly covers more forensic aspects of firearms and there is an increased cost for that. Thought I would just let you all know as you know as it might be of interest to museum professionals if they have firearms in their collection. Here is the info from the last course on the website, I think they have expanded the eligibility criteria as you do not have to have handled section 5 firearms prior to the course I think you just need a relevant reason to attend.
