The Michael C. Carlos Museum at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia has a
permanent part time (20 hours per week) opening in its Collections
Services office.  The position includes fringe benefits.  Compensation and
other details are available in the posting.


TITLE:  Collections Services Assistant, Museum

SUMMARY:
Assists with the use and accessibility of the museumıs collections and
collection records for research, teaching, exhibitions, and loans.
Assists with the monitoring of the museumıs environmental systems.  Works
with other collections services departments and lenders.  Works in
compliance with the museumıs collections management policies and
procedures.  Reports to the Director of Collections Services.  Receives
work assignments from the Director of Collections Services and the
Associate Registrar.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelors degree in Art History, Anthropology, or a related field with one
year of collections management experience in a museum or archive setting.
Must be able to lift objects weighing up to 20 pounds unassisted.  Must be
able to climb stairs and ladders.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
ENVIRONMENTAL CONTROL: Maintains the museumıs digital temperature and
relative humidity data logger system and analyzes and processes all output
data.  Monitors and maintains microclimate storage areas and exhibition
cases.
COLLECTIONS MAINTENANCE: Creates and maintains physical housings for
collection objects. Performs periodic maintenance to artworks on long term
display, including dusting of artwork and display case interiors,
monitoring pest control traps, and reporting pest infestations to other
collections staff.
COLLECTIONS ACCESS:  Coordinates requests for access to the museumıs
collections and collections documentation received from faculty,
researchers, students, and other persons.  Oversees activities of all
non-museum personnel while accessing the collections.
COLLECTION SUPPORT SERVICES:  Provides handling assistance to other
collection services departments in accessing and moving collections for
conservation, examination, research, or installation and deinstallation.
RECORDS MANAGEMENT:  Creates and maintains printed and computerized
collections records and legal documents for acquisitions and loans
including accession and loan source records, object catalogue records,
appraisals, and condition reports.  Organizes and maintains departmental
files and object files.
PHOTOGRAPHIC SERVICES:  With Associate Registrar, fulfills requests for
photography of objects in the museumıs collection.
PHOTOGRAPHIC ARCHIVES AND LIBRARY:  Organizes and maintains the care of
the museumıs physical photographic archives and digital image library.
EXHIBITION SUPPORT SERVICES:  Provides assistance to couriers from lending
institutions by packing, unpacking, and conditioning reporting exhibition
objects during installation and deinstallation.
PACKING/TRANSPORTATION:  Implements physical packing of gifts and loans to
the permanent collection in house, at lending institutions, or at lender
or donor residences.
SUPPLIES:  Monitors inventory of departmental office, collections care,
and packing supplies, and informs Director of Collections Services as
stores are depleted.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT:  Maintains professional growth by participating
in educational programs and professional organizations and activities to
maintain a knowledge of current trends, practices, and developments.
Performs related responsibilities as required.

WORKING CONDITIONS:  Office environment; museum galleries; storage areas;
and lenderıs residences, warehouses, or facilities.
