Hi Bobbie (& all),

First, I would say for resolution you need to figure out how big you want them to be physically, then try printing one at 100 dpi or whatever and see how it looks.

(Someone check me on this...If you scan a 4 x 6 photo at 100 dpi, and then print it at 8 x 10 (or something close) at 100 ppi, it may not look so good - it's early, but if my brain is working right, your software would probably tell your printer to "make up" a point of color (or
black ink) for every "real" one (pixel) scanned, all the way across the page. You only had 100 per inch to go 4 inches, and now you need to go 8 inches, so you need an extra 100 from somewhere to stay at 100 per inch. Right?)

Also remember that anything over 72 won't look any different on the computer screen, but will look very different on paper. Lots of image software will let you choose the output size, and/or the resolution at a certain output size - you really should experiment. A lot of the
final look may depend on your printer, too!

Second, file formats like TIFF and JPEG can be read by applications on either the Mac or Windows platform. You can have Photoshop, for example, on either kind of machine and open lots of different image file formats. The thing about JPEGs is that more applications are able to
open them easily; your internet browser, for example.

Good luck and have fun.

Tim
