Dear Friends and Colleagues,

I apologize for any cross-posting, but I am forwarding the following
about a series of workshops in which I participated this Spring. If you
would like a copy of the brochure, including the registration card,
please call me at (513)763-2315.

==============================
The Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) in partnership with NASA, PTC,
Inc., and the U.S. Space & Rocket Center are excited to announce three
New workshop offerings for Fall, 2006.

These workshops will help educators in schools and informal education
settings (e.g., libraries, museums, science centers, after school
programs) explore and adapt curricula and materials developed by NASA
and others. Each workshop will have a different theme and will give you
the opportunity to work with NASA and other scientists, engineers and
educators to create incredible activities and experiences for your
students and other educators in your area.

Working in small groups, educators will explore the options and
opportunities to use a variety of materials in their specific education
environment. Workshop participants will receive copies of or access to
all resources. Participants will continue communicating with their
groups after returning home, as they implement and further adapt these
instructional tools, sharing their collective experience with the entire
group.

These workshops are offered at no cost for ALL educators, both formal
(i.e., classroom teachers) and informal (e.g., from museums, science
centers, afterschool programs, libraries), and to those homeschooling
their children. This is a great opportunity to learn more about NASA and
other programs and to bring exciting new ideas to your organization.
Space is limited in these workshops, so please register early.

For participants located in or serving counties designated as
"distressed" by ARC in FY2005, an ARC grant will pay for transportation,
housing, and meals to attend the workshop.

* Pro/DESKTOP (Pro/D) Trainer Certification *
August 14 - 16, 2006
Workshop is offered to anyone who has already participated in the
Pro/DESKTOP workshops. This workshop will allow those that are using
Pro/ D in their classrooms to be able to instruct other teachers in
their area and expose more students to the 3D Engineering software.
Pro/D is a 3-D design software program from PTC, Inc., that can help
bring to life advanced math and sciences classes as well as design and
engineering classes. This three-day "Capstone" workshop will enable
those who have already participated in a Pro/D teacher training workshop
and have a valid software license to become certified instructors. Once
certified, you will be able to train other educators so that they too
can receive an educational use license and copy of the software from PTC
for their organization.

* Return to the Moon Workshop *
September 14 - 15, 2006
The "Return to the Moon" theme will focus on NASA's returning to the
moon by 2018. The workshop will include trips to Marshall Space Flight
Center and visits with engineers developing the technology to make the
next trip safer and faster. Other topics will include craters,
meteorites, volcanoes, soil, lunar landers, and astrobiology. HAM radio
communication will also be incorporated. These two days will be an
opportunity to bring the exploring spirit of the moon to your classroom
environment.

* On to Mars Workshop *
September 28 - 29, 2006
This workshop will focus on the exploration and research being conducted
on Mars and what will be required to send humans to that planet. The
rovers, Spirit and Opportunity, sent up by NASA in 2004, have
outperformed everyone's expectations. Workshops will include robotics,
soil analysis, and the science that the rovers are discovering and
sending back to earth. Scientist from Jet Propulsion Lab will
participate in a live videoconference to update the group on the latest
research developments. The Return to the Moon and On to Mars workshops
will help bring the work NASA is doing and the curricula they are
working on to your libraries, museums, science centers, and schools.

END OF FORWARD

===================================================================

GREECE: SECRETS OF THE PAST is a sweeping OMNIMAX journey back in time. The film sets out on a quest to uncover the buried secrets of the Bronze and Golden Ages of ancient Greece. Using modern archaeology, the film weaves a compelling story about this culture's rapid progress in science, politics, philosophy, sports and art. Dig for clues at Santorini, dive into the Aegean Sea to discover a 2,000-year-old statue of Poseidon, and witness a remarkable re-creation of the Parthenon - this is classic OMNIMAX.
