While not quite a simulated dig, The Art Institute sponsors Archaeology
Day, in conjunction with our Classical Arts Society and the AIA. Latin
students from the Chicagoland area come to the museum part of the day,
during which they hear a lecture from an actual archaeologist, tour the
ancient art galleries, and then "excavate" and reconstruct a pot. This
year, we were able to send them home with a copy of Dig magazine, the AIA's
new archaeology magazine for kids. Originally at the Field Museum, the
Archaeology Day program has been a success for several years.

As we prepare for the next Archaeology Day, it has been wonderful to
receive all the ideas and sources posted to your request.

Thanks!

Jamie
