Job Description: The Atomic Testing Museum, an affiliate of the
Smithsonian Institution, seeks an experienced museum educator.  The museum
features exhibits that detail the history of the Nevada Test Site (NTS)
and its role in the Cold War.  The design of the permanent exhibits
(opening in December 2004) will portray world history as community history
through openness about the NTS and its programs, first-person narratives,
large iconic artifacts, authenticity of text, theatrical devices,
interactive elements for personal exploration, multiple viewpoints
expressed in multi-media presentations and stunning graphics.  A key
member of the staff, the educator oversees and implements the expanding
education program including: training the docent volunteers, developing
programs for the general public, preparing education grant applications,
collaborating with colleagues in the school system and developing programs
for secondary school students and serving as the museum's spokesperson
with area schools. The educator may have an opportunity to participate and
teach in the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV’s) developing museum
studies program.

Requirements: Applicants must have a Masters Degree in museology or a
related field with some science/history or history of science training;
minimum 3 years museum education experience preferred. Evidence of
effective teaching in museology, history or science education desired.
