As a paper conservator the problem we have had with the old technique of use
bread as a cleaner is that there is a greasy residue in the makeup.  It is definitely not advisable for this to touch paper.  As it is very difficult to remove.Therefore it is definitely not recommended for cleaning any types of paper
materials
