The Morton Arboretum in Lisle, IL, seeks an Assistant Manager for the
Children's Garden to work with the Children's Garden Manager to create
an engaging outdoor learning environment for children in the four-acre
Children's Garden.  They will share responsibility and oversight of
daily operations and programs with the Children's Garden Manager,
including one weekend day per week and some holidays.  Candidate will
develop and deliver a range of different kinds of programs (public
drop-in programs, fee-based classes, and other informal learning
experiences), supervise staff and volunteers, and evaluate program
success with a goal of maximizing use of the Children's Garden by our
audiences.  Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Education, Museum
Education, Environmental Education, Recreation or related field
required. Three years experience in education programming for a
botanical garden, arboretum, nature center, or museum required. 
Demonstrated experience in informal learning with children.  Ability to
use e-mail and calendaring software programs required, intermediate word
processing skills (preferably MS Word), as well as basic skills using
spreadsheet programs (preferably Excel).  Excellent oral and written
communication skills required.  Prior experience developing outdoor
informal science learning activities for children that support National
Science Education Standards a plus.  Individual must be highly organized
with the ability and experience to manage multiple simultaneous programs
with great attention to detail.  Strong interpersonal skills and genuine
enthusiasm for working with children are a must.  The ability to work
well as part of a team is essential.   Stamina and ability to deliver
outdoor programs and to travel around the four-acre garden on paved,
wood-chipped, and dirt paths over varied and uneven terrain in various
