One trick I've used in the past is to send a SASE in my resume/application
with a short confirmation form which I've provided the employer. They can
simply fill in the blank as to the date received, and a blank with an
expected time of contact if I will be considered for further review (I also
leave a space at the bottom for "more information needed" comments). I know
that applicants shouldn't always have to do this, but it generally means
more to me to know that my information was received. I figure it's worth an
extra stamp and envelope.

As an employer, I responded to every applicant for any position I've posted
(but admittedly I've never received 200 resumes either). Even if it is a
postcard printed on my desktop that I hand-write the address on when I open
each and every resume, I've always been taught it was common courtesy to
respond. But knowing we are all streached for time and money, perhaps
potential employers who do not believe they will send confirmations could
state that in their job ad - and request an SASE for those who wish to
receive word of their application's receipt.

Just an idea...
Melinda G.
