Now that school is back in session, here are two on-line resources from
the Smithsonian's Center for Museum Studies:

1. The Center for Museum Studies (CMS) Museum Studies Database is a
bibliographic research tool offering electronic access to information about
theses, dissertations, articles, and audiotapes concerning the theory and
operations of museums. All information is in English. Currently indexed in
the Museum Studies Database are

*17 years of articles published in the Journal of Museum Education (JME)
and its predecessor Roundtable Reports

*21 years of articles from the American Law Institute-American Bar
Association (ALI-ABA) course of study: Legal Problems of Museum Administration

*over 1,000 citations to masters' theses and doctoral dissertations
written on museological issues at universities throughout the world

*citations to audiotapes of the 1993, 1994, and 1995 sessions of the
American Association of Museums annual meetings

The Museum Studies Database is accessible through the Smithsonian
Institution Research Information System (SIRIS). Visit the SIRIS web site
at http://www.siris.si.edu. At the opening screen select
"Research/Bibliographies.

The telnet address for the SIRIS database network is siris.si.edu. At the
"Welcome SIRIS" screen choose BIB to connect to the Research Bibliographies
Catalog, then type SET CAT and choose Museum Studies Database.

2. The on-line edition of "Internship Opportunities at the Smithsonian
Institution" is now available at http://www.si.edu/cms/iosi.htm. The guide
includes hundreds of internship projects in forty internship programs
around the Smithsonian Institution as well as links to the standard
Application for Smithsonian internships and other useful resources.
