INTERNSHIPS AVAILABLE
    Rapidly growing public history institution
with expanding collections management needs seeks
candidates for contract positions.

    The Erie County Historical Society & Museums,
a part of DISCOVERY SQUARE cultural complex,in
Erie, PA (NW PA) will undertake a significant
initiative to catalogue a portion of its
collections and support the institution's exhibit
program. Funded by the Erie Community Foundation,
internships will begin winter 2001 and are
six-month, full-time contract positions. 40 hr.
per week, salary range $8.00-10.00 per hr. based
on coursework/experience. BA/BS minimum
requirement. Will consider recent graduates. Grad
students preferred. History, Art History, Museum
Studies/Archives, Anthropology, Library
Science/Archives concentration, English,
Communications, Journalism/Historical Editing.
Estimated starting date: January 2001. Candidate
review will begin immediately until the positions
are filled.

    There is a possibility that these positions
will be extended, pending additional grant

ARCHIVAL INTERN
    Archives project focuses on development of a
GUIDE TO SELECTED COLLECTIONS and exhibition of
selected items providing "Voices from the
Collections", as interesting items are discovered.
Intern will work closely with the
Librarian&Archivist to prepare collections for the
public and assist in the development of the GUIDE.
Job will involve processing portions of
collections; preparing selected collections for
use by the public; performing preservation tasks;
rehousing collections; abstracting from finding
aids and original documents. Skills: strong
written and oral communication skills; ability to
prioritize and structure information in a timely
manner; detail oriented; high standard of
productivity. Previous experience in processing
collections, developing finding aids, meeting
deadlines and strong data entry skills, and a good
sense of humor an asset. Familiarity with
Photoshop, Pagemaker, MAC environment and scanning
a plus.

CURATORIAL INTERN
    The ECHS&M has a position for a curatorial
intern. The intern will assist the Curator with a
major project to catalog the organization's varied
collection of 33,000 artifacts using PastPerfect
software. Applicants should be detail-oriented and
have experience with museum collections (knowledge
of Chenall's Nomenclature a plus), computers
(knowledge of PastPerfect is highly desired),
photography and have strong written and oral
communication skills.
