You might be interested in a new publication produced by the Public Monuments and Sculpture
Association in the UK. Whilst its theme is sculpture, so not directly relevant, you may find some
useful suggestions about dealing with an estate. Here are the details from a recent publicity leaflet

The Custodian's Handbook

This invaluable and unique resource is compiled by the Public Monuments and Sculpture
Association, with associated organisa-tions and individuals, for sculptors and other artists who
plan to bequeath their estates – also for families and individuals who inherit sculptors’ estates.

Advised and produced by family members and by people working in the field, the Handbook offers
practical guidance whilst providing an exhaustive guide to information sources in the last chapter
(Chapter 9: Information and Support).

Chapters 1-8 deal with legal and financial matters, sorting and cataloguing, storage and transport,
dispersal, putting work on loan, mounting an exhibition, conservation, and maintenance of
sculptures in public ownership.

From Monday 8 August, the Handbook can be downloaded from the Web at www.pmsa.org.uk.
Ring-bound copies are available from [log in to unmask] at a retail price of £10 + £2 p & p (£12
in all).
