Assistant Curator of Historical Exhibitions


The Drawing Center announces an opening for a full-time Assistant 
Curator of Historical Exhibitions.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  The Assistant Curator is responsible for overseeing 
all aspects of The Drawing Center's historical exhibitions including: 
researching upcoming exhibitions; researching and securing loans; 
developing exhibition budgets and schedules; contributing to grant 
applications and other fundraising initiatives; writing project 
descriptions and wall texts; identifying exhibition travel venues; 
generating and managing contracts for traveling exhibitions and guest 
curators; and overseeing the registrar and installation staff.  A 
significant component of this position is editing exhibition-related 
publications, for which exceptional editorial skills are required. 

BACKGROUND:  The Drawing Center is the only non-for-profit institution 
in the country to focus solely on the exhibition of contemporary and 
historic drawings.  The Drawing Center was established in SoHo in 1977 
to provide opportunities for emerging and under-recognized artists; to 
demonstrate the significance and diversity of drawings throughout 
history; and to stimulate public dialogue on issues of art and culture.

QUALIFICATIONS:  A Master's degree in art history is required.  The 
ideal candidate possesses outstanding communication and organizational 
skills, an ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and a 
minimum two years experience working in a curatorial department.  
Proficiency in a foreign language is desirable.

The position is available September 2001.  Applications will be
