This may or may not fit the bill, but Harvard has a program called Project
Zero that was founded by Nelson Goodman in 1967 to explore the impact of the
arts on cognition development. At the time the project was initiated, there
was almost zero research in the field, hence the name. There are intensive,
one-week Project Zero seminars every summer at Harvard; they are offered
through the Harvard Graduate School of Education; Howard Garner, of Multiple
Intelligences fame, is one of the project's driving forces now. A friend
who teaches art attended this summer; she reported that many museum
educators attend the program, and it does sound tailor-made for this field.
Good luck to you.

working in museum education about higher education courses and training
