Building Museums™ Symposium 2010
New York, New York
February 28 – March 2

The Mid-Atlantic Association of Museums (MAAM) invites you to join us in rich discussions and presentations on the mysteries, pitfalls, and rewards of planning and managing museum building projects. Share lessons learned from your museum building project experiences--successes as well as failures. Help your colleagues with insights into the best
practices in the field to ensure the success of their projects. Most of all, add to the store of knowledge the symposium is accumulating on this very important topic.

Theme:
We always attempt to be keenly focused on new concepts that complement our organizing principles of Vision, Implementation and Sustainability. In particular this year, the concept of the “triple bottom line” stands out: how Environment, Finances and Community are impacting new museum construction, expansion, or rehabilitation.

Content:
Building Museums™ 2010 will feature program content that reflects museums of various sizes, disciplines, budgets, collections-orientation, and scope of building projects. Projects of all sizes and budgets are sought and can include: new facilities, preservation, renovation and expansion of existing buildings.

We expect to continue featuring the following topics: good planning, fundraising and financing building programs with a focus on creative approaches and success stories; total cost budgeting and scope control; current green design applications; collections preservation standards and storage planning; risk reduction strategies; and stories that feature a museum that has recovered from a difficult situation.
