The most annoying and frustrating thing that can happen to a
volunteer (or at least it was to me) is to be told to do something
by a paid member of staff and not given enough detail about how the
staff member wanted it done. Having put (unpaid) time and effort
into the task, the staff member comes bustling back (despite being
nowhere to be found when you had questions to ask) and says that they
wanted it done differently, and it will have to be done again.

However 'self-starting' a volunteer wants to be, one needs to
be fully informed about what one is doing! Taking the time to explain
properly what you want, and perhaps provide written guidelines, can
save time in the end, and may stop your volunteers wanting to murder
you!

The second most annoying thing is having to listen (and sympathise)
when staff go on about how little they are paid and how little
holiday they get!
