The Institute for Museum Services (IMS) has asked the conservation
community to let museums know that applications to the Conservation
Project Support program for funding of conservation projects have
declined in recent cylces, and all allocated funds have not been used.
IMS is consequently debating transfer of conservation program funds to
other programs. The best way to keep the conservation program fully
funded is to apply!

IMS provides Conservation Project Support on a one-to-one matching basis
for collections care and management projects to institutions that meet
its eligibility requirements (call IMS at 2002-606-8539 if you have
questions about eligibility). The next application deadline for
conservation projects if *March 31, 1995*. Funds are available! This is
your chance to make an important impact on the preservaiton of your
musseum's collections and to let IMS know that museums need conservation
funds.

If you have questions about the status of funding, or if you would like a
copy of the IMS Conservation Project Support application, including
eligibility criteria, contact the Institute for Museum Services,
Conservation Project Support Program, 1100 Pensylvania Avenue, NW, Room
609, Washington, DC 20560 (202-606-8539). IMS staff will be glad to talk
about your proposed project and to provide samples of successful proposals.

We urge you to work with your conservators (including NEDCC) in preparing
your IMS Conservation Project Support request -- many conservators have
served as reviewers for IMS conservation proposals, and can help you put
together a strong proposal.
