The state of Virginia has had to confront salary scales for museum
professionals and para-professionals. I believe its policy/levels are
quite intelligently drawn and evaluated from time to time. Now in the
non-profit world, I wish we could afford to compete with its compensation
for our own small staff!

Contact the Virginia Dept. of Personnel in Richmond - write Director, DPT,
Monroe Building, State Capitol, Richmond VA 23219.

The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, as chartered 60 years ago, is empowered
to confer degrees -- but it never has. Nonetheless, it does confer faculty
rank on some of its professionals and thus sets an appropriate salary
within funds available, escaping I assume the strictures of the State's
scale. It is a great resource as well.
