I have to jump into this discussion to talk about my experiences with
hiring interns with "advanced degrees." I have been very disappointed with
the MA students' performance compared to interns who have earned their BA.
The BA level interns work harder, are more interested in learning and seem
to have a better attitude. I think there is room in our profession for all
levels of education and experience, and having an MA does not mean that
person will make a better employee. Museums should be careful of using
degree levels as a cut-off when interviewing prospective employees.
