Salary:	Starting salary is between $41,135 and $42,000
per year depending on experience and qualification,
plus excellent benefits. This position is in pay
schedule and range 81-03. A twelve-month probationary
period will be required. This is a non-represented
position.

This position is located at Old World Wisconsin (OWW)
in the Historic Sites Division of the Wisconsin
Historical Society. Old World Wisconsin (OWW) is a
576-acre living history museum of rural life located
near Eagle in rural Waukesha County 35 miles from
Milwaukee.  OWW is the largest of nine historic sites
of the State Historical Society of Wisconsin, one of
the nation’s premier public history enterprises. The
position reports to the Historic Site Coordinator at
OWW.
Job Duties: The Curatorial Supervisor at OWW is
responsible for supervising the development and
implementation of interpretive programs that include
daily third-person programming, historic farming,
heirloom gardens, craft and foodways; dramatic
vignettes; formal exhibits; and a variety of other
interpretive methodologies. The position has primary
responsibility for supervising a staff of over 100
interpretive staff members. The position also plays a
major role in the museum's effort to interpret the
history of rural Wisconsin during the nineteenth and
early twentieth centuries and is responsible for the
development and revision of educational programming
for school groups that visit the museum.
Special Notes: Must possess a valid driver’s license
upon appointment for travel around and between sites.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Professional
knowledge of interpretive methodology, including
guided tours, first- and third-person living history,
and dramatic vignettes. Professional research skills
to document interpretive activities in a national,
regional, and ethnic context. Knowledge of Midwest
rural history as typically acquired in a graduate
level, history degree program. Demonstrated ability to
supervise a large staff and complex interpretive
program. Ability to coordinate and direct the work of
other staff. Effective skills in oral, written, and
interpersonal communications; and personal
presentations relating to staff, visitors, and museum
professionals. Knowledge of accepted curriculum
development and learning theory, and the ability to
apply these concepts to museum programming for
school-aged children. Ability to independently and
legally travel about a large site, as well as to
various off-site locations.

foodways; dramatic vignettes, formal exhibits,
interpretive manuals, special events planning).
3.	Supervision of professionals including performance
planning and evaluation and handling disciplinary
problems, etc. Be sure to include the type of setting
where you obtained the experience.
4.	Interpretive program research experience and
responsibilities.
5.	Educational program development or teaching
experience related to ethnic rural history of the 19th
and early twentieth centuries.  Be sure to include the
type of setting where you obtained the experience.
