JOB OPENING:  PUBLIC ART REGISTRAR

The Seattle Arts Commission is pleased to announce a job opening for the position of Public Art Registrar.  This is a regular position offered at 32 hours/week. Primary Duties:  This position provides specialized administrative support to the Seattle Arts Commission’s Public Art Program.  The primary duties of this position include the following:
    · Maintenance of records for the City of Seattle Public Art collection in files and on a computerized collections database.
    - "Records" include project history, condition and location histories, and documentation of maintenance procedures and conservation treatments.
    - "Maintaining records" includes the cataloguing of artworks, processing loans, new accessions, deaccessions, and rotating exhibitions.
    - Act as a general source of information about finished projects and physical artworks for SAC staff.
    - Maintain forms and procedures to abide by basic museum registrar standards.
    · Provide support for the Portable Works Collection Manager/Curator in art handling and installation, in monitoring the condition of the collection and in monitoring the development of proper collections storage.
    · Provide support for the Permanent Collections Maintenance manager in scheduling maintenance procedures, supplying unique technical information  and maintaining good maintenance and condition histories for each artwork.
    · Monitor/administer rights and reproduction of images of City artworks (slides and photo loans).
    · Maintenance of SAC project history archives.

Required Qualifications:  Minimum of one year of experience with collection management requiring administration and complex organizational skill development.  Must have knowledge of and experience with relational database management.  Must be able to work independently.  A combination of education, training and experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work may be substituted.

Desired Experience and Qualifications:  B.A. or B.F.A. in Art History or Museum Studies.  The most competitive candidates will have strong communication and organizational skills, as well as experience and knowledge of public art programs and collections.

Salary:  $13.81 - $15.40/hr
