Museum-L is normally very well managed and fully moderated to eliminate
spams.  However - as per at least 4 notices over the past 6 weeks or so -
John Chadwick is moving jobs and the list had had to be made unmoderated
for 2/3 weeks. If this is a problem you could always set Museum-l to
NOMAIL temporarily and follow the discussion (and spams) on the web
archive instead for the duration and then use to SET MAIL command to
re-start normal deliveries when John is back in the hot seat.

P.S. As a list manager myself can I say that the spamming problems of the
past few days shows just how hard John works for us when Museum-L is
running normally.
