Add Sweden to the list of countries that tried to become North American powers.

Sweden established a small colony in the Delaware River Valley. There 
were settlements in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, beginning in 
1638. The colony was taken over by the Dutch a couple decades later, 
and by the English a couple decades after that.  Check out the 
American Sweden Historical Museum in Philadelphia and the annual New 
Sweden Conference this November and find out more. (You don't have to 
be Swedish--or American--to enjoy the museum. Free parking!
