If you are doing something like a mock archaeological dig, it is easy to
simulate an historic site with garage sale items...old plate that can be
broken and scattered, buttons, chicken bones, clam shells, etc. as the
other respondants said though, it depends upon what type of artifacts you
are looking for and what you will be doing with them.
