Interactives do not have to be expensive.  Seven years
ago I did one to go with a Native American exhibit.  It
consisted of an Eastern Woodland headdress, a toy made
from a bone, seeds from native domesticated plants and
a few other items (everything was a reproduction).  It
cost about $25 to put together and the kids considered
it the best part of the exhibit.

Four years ago, while working for another museum, I did
an exhibit on technology.  A well-known computer store
offered me an early Mac computer plus a computer game
to contrast with a state-of-the-art computer they were
lending me for the exhibit.  It was a hit with kids and
adults,cost me nothing, and was good advertisement for
the computer store.
