Dear List Members -- It seems a message from us about job opportunities was
infected with the dreaded Kak. We have both Norton and McAfee (always
updated and running) on our computers and we sent the job postings as text,
not attachment. After calling in our computer consultant, no virus was
detected. We apologize for the inconvenience, but are still clueless as to
how we transmitted it. Cheers! Geri Thomas, Thomas & Associates, Inc., New
York; artstaffing.com

Yes indeed, and let's hear it for good advice from Harry.

If you can, please safeguard your files buy purchasing Norton Antivirus
or McAfee's VirusScan programs and installing them! I think we already
went round with this one a few months back. I got the kak virus from an
e-mail (I can't blame Museum-L because we were also working with our
webmaster who I think sent it on unknowingly from cyberspace), and my
fellow e-mailer sure chewed me out about it. We purchased Norton
Antivirus and installed the programs on all of our museum computers. I
bought me a version of the Norton Antivirus program that checks e-mail
for my home use; now my machine alerts me when there is a problem, and I
get to either quarantine the file or just delete it (I go for delete
mostly), for home use. I think someone left instructions on how to clean
out the kak virus from the system files, so check the Museum-L Archives.

And let's hear it for John who's punting the bad stuff out!
