  DIRECTOR OF THE UNIVERSITY OF NEBRASKA STATE MUSEUM
 
The University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) invites applications
and nominations for Director, University of Nebraska State
Museum.  The University of Nebraska State  Museum is a natural
history museum with a staff of 60 people, a budget of two
million, and research collections numbering approximately 14
million specimens.  The Museum includes facilities in Lincoln,
the Trailside Museum at Fort Robinson and Ashfall Fossil Beds
State Park.
 
Reporting to the Vice Chancellor for Research, the successful
candidate will have primary leadership and fiscal
responsibility in furthering the mission of the Museum in
research, teaching, and public service.  Candidates for the
position must possess an earned doctorate in science or other
appropriate academic discipline, have a record of scholarly
achievement and experience in management and administration,
and faculty credentials consistent with those of a tenured
full professor.
 
This position is also responsible for the vigorous pursuit of
extramural funding to support Museum research and public
outreach activities.  The Director works with non-university
groups and individuals to develop statewide support for the
Museum.
 
The Director of the University of Nebraska State Museum will
work in cooperation with the Friends of the State Museum,
Friends of the Trailside Museum, Friends at Ashfall, the
University of Nebraska Foundation, the Director of the Museum
Studies Program and the Dean of Graduate Studies and other
external constituencies.  The Director also cooperates with
the academic units and university administrators in carrying
out the mission of the Museum.
 
Screening of applications will begin on March 15, 1995.
