Nora, your message might have been laden with a bit of sarcasm, but (1) no
one really expects museum staff to dress expensively anymore, if ever,  (but
some persist); (2) outside the art museum field (and inside) there are lots
of well-liked and socially admired staff who go the blazer, khaki, &
sockless topsiders route and (3) discount merchants carry some fine labels
if it's essential.
