Hello all:

In the July/Aug 1995 issue of Museum News there was an article on the
proposed deaccession by the Maryland Institute's College of Art of its Lucas
collection. In sum, the Institute would like to sell this 20,000+ object
collection and direct the proceeds to the art school's endowment. This
proposal is now in circuit court.

My questions are: does anyone know of the current happenings of this case?
Does the Institute's colls. mgmt policy (if it has one) allow it to use the
proceeds for art school funds rather than new objects for the Institute
collection? Does the Maryland Institute have a permanent collection? I am
doing research on university museums, and a separate paper on this specific
case, relating it to deaccessioning ethics.

Thanks in advance!
