Just a few thoughts from a west coast ex-museums studies prof who knows
nothing about the Duquesne program.

In addition to the placement office question, you might inquire as to
the extent the faculty is involved in AAM, AASLH or other professional
organizations. If they are, it will mean not only that they are current
on issues in the field, but that they will be 'known' and have a network
which is very useful in internship and job placement.

If the museum part of the program is what you're going for, can you
choose more classes on the museum side or is there a fairly tight
curriculum that will end up slotting you to mostly archival or editing
work in museums. (Could be limiting if that isn't your aim...) Is
there room to add a few classes in other departments that will enhance a
particular interest of yours (management, exhibits, education,
curatorial work in a particular discipline, etc.)?

Is there adequate opportunity for doing real 'hands-on' work (in
addition to an internship) so you can get a head start in the job market
by listing what you have done? (This could be in the form of 'Project'
credit hours, work in a Univ. museum, second internship in a local
museum etc.)

Thanks for bringing up an excellent question, and one that we haven't
seen very often.
